MARKETING OF EGGS

SCHEME FOR IMPROVEMENT NEW COMMITTEE FORMED A schema to improve the marketing conditions of eggs in Auckland was approved yesterday by the Auckland Kgg Export Committee, which consists of representatives of agents and producers. As a result the present export committee has been formed into a committee the functions of which will cmbrace both export and local marketing. The Auckland Egg Export Committee was formed four years ago with the object of helping to clear surplus eggs from the local market during the flush season. The original committee, which was composed of the principal agents in Auckland, was later enlarged by the addition of an equal number of producers' representatives. The committee has worked well, it is stated, and the result of its operations has been reflected in the improvement in prices which the producer has received for his eggs during the flush season. In a statement made yesterday the chairman of the new marketing committee, Mr. A. E. Knowles, said the sclf-'ine was designed to bring the agent and the producer into closer contact and at the same time to improve the conditions under which eggs were sold to the public. The marketing committee, continued .Mr. Knowles, would endeavour as soon as possible to devise a method of grading eggs for quality as well as on weight. At the same time an effort would be made to ensure that only local eggs would be used for Auckland's egg pulp requirements, and that the necessary pulp would be secured without upsetting market prices. A sub-committee was also set up to compile records at least once a week of the stocks of all grades of eggs held in Auckland. A selling price will be fixed accordingly. The committee will consist of Mr. Knowles. representing the producers, and Turner and Growers, Limited, and Poultry Producers' Products, Limited, representatives of the agents.
