FINE OF £4 IMPOSED DRIVING LICENCE SUSPENDED Charged with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motorcar in Wellesley Street at 2.40 a.m. on Saturday, Douglas Vaughan Craddock, aged 25, jockey, pleaded guilty in the Police Court yesterday. Sub-Inspector Fox said Constable Pollock saw accused walk toward Myers Street, and noticed that he was drunk, but did not know that he was getting into a car. Later he saw a car driven into Wellesley Street at a reasonable speed and stop alongside another: constable. Accused was told to get out, and it was found that he was drunk v A doctor later certified that he was unfit to drive a car. Mr. Haigh, who represented accused, said his client had an unblemished character. He had been at a party and was under the impression that he was tit to drive, although it was subsequently shown that he was not. Ho asked for the name to be suppressed, as accused's riding licence might be affected. " No, 1 will not suppress his name," said the magistrate, Mr. W. It. McKean. " The fact that he is a jockey is not a special circumstance. If I suppressed his name I would have to suppress. that of every jockey who appeared here." Accused was fined £4 and an order made that no driver's licence be issued for three months. -
