ALBERTLAND SETTLERS
THE 74TH ANNIVERSARY [from our own correspondent] PORT ALBERT, Saturday The 74th anniversary of the sailing of the ship Matilda Wattonbach from London with the first party of settlers for the Albertland settlement on the Kaipara Harbour was celebrated at the Port Albert Public Hall yesterday. There are still a few left who came to New Zealand as children, and several were present at the function. A public tea and reunion was held and there was a very large attendance as for the first time for some years the weather was fine and enabled the older generation to attend. A fine concert by Auckland and local artists was given in the evening, followed by a dance. A presentation of a clock was made during the evening by Mr. E. R. Beecroft, chairman of the committee, to Mr. and Mrs. E. Hartnell, old settlers who are leaving the district.
