ASKED TO RETRACT
EDUCATION BOARD MEMBER
STATEMENTS AT MEETING [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday After considering evidence brought by Mr. E. S. Hvlton, secretary, the Wellington Education Board yesterday decided to ask a member, Mr. T. "W. McDonald, to retract certain statements he had made at the previous meeting about the report of the special committee set up in 1933 to consider staff salaries. As a result of this committee's recommendations, Mr. Hylton received an increase in salary. At the recent meeting of the board Mr. McDonald said that this report had never been before the board, that he had not seen a copy, and that a sheet referring to the report had been wrongly inserted in the minute book. The evidence produced by Mr. Hylton was a copy of the report -with what Mr. Hylton stated was Mr. McDonald's handwriting on the back.
Mr. McDonald was not at yesterday's meeting, it being stated that he was in hospital. When the. matter came up for consideration the other two Wairarapa representatives, Messrs. A. Donald and W. R. Nicol, left the board room.
