FALSE DECLARATION
YOUNG WOMAN AND BABY DECISION OF THE COURT [BY telegraph —OWN correspondent] ' ' NAPIER, Saturday Upon her appearance in the Supremo Court at Napier to-day for sentence on a charge of making a false declaration on oath regarding the registration of a birth of a child, Sylvia May 1' lynn, aged 22, was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within two years. The young woman had produced a baby obtained from a maternity home as a means of substantiating an allegation that slhe had given birth to a child and was thus entitled to affiliation and maintenance orders against a young man.
"The probation officers' report is a favourable one for accused," said accused's counsel. "Her motive was rather one of an attempt to get revenge than to commit a crime. She wanted revenge for moral wrong done." While quite understanding that accused had feelings of anger toward the man' who had betrayed her, said His Honor, in giving his decision, accused had done a very wrong thing.
