THE AGRICULTURAL EXPERT
Sir, —I seo a great deal of criticism is being directed against the Department of Agriculture and its officers. This is what happened in Warkworth about two years ago. A first-class man with two assistants visited the district to give a lecture on pig feeding. The lecture had been advertised, but only one person turned up. What were the farmers doing? We depend • upon the animals for our living—so we should study animal nutrition. We also depend upon our instructors and co-operative companies and should support these. We should stand together—further our own companies in every possible way—energetically push forward agricultural education in every form, especially among the young people. If wo allow political parties to run our meetings we shall make no headway. Our business is to feed our pigs and cows —in the very best way—to help the experts as much as possible. The agricultural experts try, again and again, to start young farmers' clubs, and yet the farmers take no notice of this, but listen to any showy speaker who comes along. Caroline Thompson.
