BORE ON RACECOURSE
INFLAMMABLE GAS ESCAPES NEW SOUTH WALES DISCOVERY SYDNEY, May G A party of Sydney business men returned to the city by aeroplane today from an inspection of a bore at Grafton Racecourse. The bore was originally sunk to a depth of 3700 feet for the purpose of locating artesian water, but when the drill broke on hard rock the site was abandoned. Quite recently gas fumes were detected rising from the bore hole. The gas was impounded and when a light was applied a brilliant flame shot many feet into the air. The estimated pressure of the gas was about 15001b. to the square inch.
