AUDACIOUS THIEF

SHOP WINDOW BROKEN DIAMOND RINGS STOLEN » Thieves hurled half a brick througfl the window of a jewellery shop in one of the busiest parts of Perth, Western Australia, the other afternoon, and escaped with a tray: of 18 diamond rings, valued at about £IBB. A passer-by named Thomson, hearing the crash, turned and saw a small man run out of the alcove at the entrance to the shop. He tried to stop the man, but he struggled free and dived into the rear seat of a car standing outside the shop with its engine running. Thomson made another attempt to catch the man, but received a severe kick. Other persons tried to stop the moving car by standing in front, but the driver did not stop, and they were forced to jump of the way. The car, which was stolen earlier in the day, was later found abandoned. A ring pad - and one ring were found in the car
