RATION OF MILK COMMISSIONERS APPOINTED That with the advent of colder weather the half-pint milk ration Riven to children in certain city schools was proving too much, was stated in a letter received at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board yesterday from the Auckland Headmasters' Association. The milk wan too cold for many children, and some were unable to drink more than a third of it, so that there was a great deal of waste. It was suggested that not more a third of a pint be supplied all the year round. The letter was referred to the City Council and the Health Department. The following commissioners were appointed for school districts where commissioners were previously in office and householders again failed to elect committees this year:—Brooklyn, Mr. G. Goodman; Donnelly's Crossing, Mr. W. Paton and Mr. J. Quilty; Kaimamaku, Mr. H. Matheson; Katui, Mr. J. A. Perrow; Maraetai, Mr. 0. E. Nicholson; Moumoukai, Mr. R. B. Milne; Ngataki, Mr. H. McManus, jun.; Pakiri, Mr. J. B. Witt-en; Paponga, Mr. H. G. Humphreys; Paroro, Air. J. E. McCaslin and Mr. .T. T. Hodgson; Rangiahua, Mr. W. E. Murray; Rtinkiwi, Mr. R. N. Kellow; Whakapara, Mr. G. Venn; Whangamarino, Mr. R. R. Rodda; Whangamata, Mr. P. Williamson; Pungaere, Mr. W. Copeland. Resolutions that the status of the Northcote District High School be raised to that of a technical school, passed at the householders' meeting, were forwarded by the Birkenhead School Committee. Advice was also received from the Education Department that while it agreed with the board's action in declining to recommend a change in status, it was prepared to give sympathetic consideration to recommendations for increased facilities for practical work for boys and girls and for the establishment of evening technical classes. It was decided to advise the department that the board had already expressed itself in favour of the establishment of evening classes, and to suggest a similar provision in the case of the Mataniata District High School, regarding which a protest was received. In addition to those previously announced. advice was received from the Education Department of grants for the erection of a new and larger school at Piri Piri (Waitomo Caves), and for the enlargement of the building at Tahuroa (Morrinsville). Authority was received for the closing of the Lower Matakana School and the conveyance of the pupils to the Warkworth District High School.
