NEW ZEALAND WRITERS Interesting articles covering a wide range of topics appear in the May number of the New Zealand Railways Magazine, which, apart from the high standard it maintains, continues to earn considerable popularity by the new field it has opened to New Zealand writers. Mr. James Cowan, Mr. O. N. Gillespie, " Robin Hyde " and other leading writers have contributed fiction, special articles and verse, and the magizine this month may be classed among the finest numbers yet published. Continuing his series of articles, " Famous New Zealanders," Mr. James Cowan has written on the political eareer of Sir Joseph Ward, and with considerable interest the reader is taken from phase to phase of the career of the noted statesman. Tn recognition of Authors' Week, an article, freelv illustrated, outlining the achievements of New Zealanders in literature, has been written by Mr. 0. N. Gillespie. Included among the pages given to fiction are two good short stories. " ITrewera Gold " and " On the Road to Anywhere," both written by wellknown New Zealand writers.
