WORK FOR EDUCATION
BOARD MEMBERS' DEATHS "T am sure you all wish me to make reference to what is no doubt in all your minds, the very sad and heavy loss we have suffered by the death within 36 hours of Mr. R. Hoe and Sir. C. F. Collins, two members of this board," said Mr. T. U. Wells, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, when members assembled for yesterday's meeting. Both Mr. Hoe and Mr. Collins were very highly esteemed personally, and on account of the valuable work they had done on the board, he said. Mr, Hoe had been a member for 12 years, and his knowledge and services were always freely placed at the board's disposal. Although Mr. Collins had been a member for a much shorter time, he had already made his mark. He had also given very fine service under the board as a teacher, and had taken a live and active interest in matters affecting the community. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect, and it was decided to express to relatives of Mr. Hoe and Mr. Collins the deep sympathy of the board. Nominations will be called to fill Mr. Collins' seat, but as Mr. Hoe's term of office was to expire in July the vacancy will not be filled until then.
