FIRE PREVENTION

DISPLAY AT DARGAVILLE EFFICIENCY OF NEW PLANT ; [by telegraph—own correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Wednesday As a feature of the observance of fire prevention week a demonstration of hose work was given last evening by the Dargarille Fire Brigade, under the direction of Superintendent P. W«- * Hayward. The new motor reel equipment and high-pressure suction pump were used to draw water from the river, and three leads of hose were brought into play, as well as four leads from hydrants. The seven leads in £" operation simultaneously offered con- « vincing evidence of the fire-fighting efficiency of the, new plant. The demonstration was witnessed by a large gathering of people, and the i smartness and efficiency with which the brigade executed its work evoked •? favourable comment. The Dargaville Fire Board intends to ask the Government to restore the two cuts, each of 10 per cent, made in the contributions of the Government to the board's annual expenditure. The board will ask that, in view of the fact that it is restoring the cuts made in remuneration to its employees, as sug- ~ gested by the Government, the latter should also restore the cuts it has made. v
