BURIED CHEESE FOUND

IN THE GROUND FOR YEARS "VERY AGREEABLE FLAVOUR" The sinking of a post hole in the renovation of a boundary fence near the Huinga dairy factory, 11 miles from Stratford, brought to light an unexpected discovery, which may provide scientific data of value to the Taranaki cheese industry. The farm hand working on the fenge first removed the surface sod and then dug through a layer of ash-like substance. After that ho encountered what ho thought at first to be yellow clay, but which on examination proved to be totally different. He enlarged the hole and soon, to his amazement, lifted out a 401b. cheese. How long the cheese had been in the grbund is difficult to conjecture, but the surface appearance, the depth of the hole and the state of the ashes indicate that several years have probably lapsed since the cheese was made. Several people at Huinga have tasted the cheese and all say it has a particularly agreeable flavour. It is reported to be rich in quality and toxturo and of excellent appearance and body. A considerable part of the cheese has been sent to Stratford for expert examination.
