FLOODING IN NORTH

CONCERN OF FARMERS ATTACK ON PROBLEM SOUGHT [by telegraph OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Wednesday The frequent flooding in North Auckland in the past two years was the subject of the following remit from the Whangarei branch, received to-day at the annual meeting of the Whangarei sub-provincial executive of tho Farmers' Union:—"That, as the frequent and severe nature of the floods in North Auckland is causing settlers repeated losses of livestock, land improvements and farm income, the Government be requested to set up an expert committee with a view to formulating plans for the preventing or control of flooding in North Auckland." Mr. A. E. Phillips: We cannot hope to have flooding totally abolished, but it may be possible by clearing streams and by other methods to considerably improve the position. Mr. W. H. Chetham: The difficulties in each district have their own peculiarities, and the remedies are not always known to others. Tho president, Mr. A. Briscoe Moore, moved as an amendment that all branches be asked to forward opinions as to the best means of providing the quick release of storm water in their areas. This amendment was carried.
