RAROTONGAN FRUIT
SHIPMENT BY MAKURA GOOD SEASON EXPECTED [BY TELEGRAPH- —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Ihe fruit shipment sent forward by tho Makura, reports the Press Association's correspondent at Rarotonga, included bananas, 4627 cases, oranges, 711 cases, mandarins, 360 boxes. The price paid locally to the growers was the same as the last shipment of bananas—2s 6d a case at tho packing shed, and 3s a case delivered to the wharf. It is understood that practically tho whole shipment has been sold locally, no bananas being sent on consignment. This is the first shipment of citrus fruit for the season. Oranges have been heavily graded, only 711 cases being accepted for shipment, all on consignment. The motor-ship Cape Horn will mako a call at tho islands of Aitutaki and Mangaia next month to pick up tho first of the season's oranges from those islands. Possibly about 8000 cases will bo shipped. Trees arc bearing well and good shipments should result in later months.
