SERGEANT'S SUICIDE
CALLED AS A WITNESS TRAGIC METHOD OF EVASION NEW YORK. April 56 The recent investigation ordered by the Governor of New York, Mr. Herbert Lehman, into the administration of the criminal law of the State resulted in the suicide of Sergeant Hemendinger, of the Police Department. He shot himself a few hours before he was to hare appeared with his bank records for questioning by the Governor's investigators in connection with bribery arising from a notorious murder case. Charges had been made to the effect that large sums of money were distributed among the police in efforts to hush up che killing of Sam Drukman, a gangster.
