ALCOHOL AS CARGO
SUPPOSED OIL TANKER RAID AT AMERICAN PORT (Received April 27, 7.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 2G Federal agents to-day raided an oil tanker immediately after she had docked at Elizabeth, New Jersey. Instead of the vessel's tanks carrying petroleum, they were filled with 100,000 gallons of fine grain alcohol, which, in the illicit liquor trade, is worth about 5,000,000 dollars. It was one of the biggest seizures of smuggled intoxicants since the repeal of prohibition. The vessel apparently had operated for some time disguised as a tanker.
