STRANDED BARQUE

POSITION FEARED HOPELESS NUMEROUS SPECTATORS LONDON, April 26 Thousands of people travelled to the Devon coast to-day to see the stranded barque Herzogin Cecilie. Motor-cars extended for a distance of three miles, and the police were forced to institute oneway traffic. Spectators clustered on the cliffs and saw men in small boats alongside the Herzogin Cecilie collecting the crew's belongings. The vessel's position appears to be hopeless, but Captain Eriksson hopes, with favourable weather, to discharge the wheat cargo into barges and patch up the holds, thus enabling tugs to pull the ship off.
