CONTEST THIS EVENING AUSTRALIAN MEETS JACOBS The programme of professional and amateur contests which the Auckland Boxing Association will stage at the Town Hall tonight offers excellent entertainment, and it is expected that the carnival will be the most successful which has been staged for many years. The principal event will be the professional contest of 15 rounds between Cyril Pluto and Ern Jacobs, and some thrilling exchanges are promised. Pluto ninde a great impression last week when he defeated Mudgwa7, while Jacobs comes to Auckland with the reputation of being a hard-hitting two-handed fighter, and the pair should therefore provide a great contest. The amateut programme comprises n s :ries of contests of four rounds each between picked boxers from Auckland and an additional attraction is a return match between the Auckland and Maori teams who fought so well and gave the crowd such fine entertainment last Monday evening. Such a programme cannot fail to appeal, and it is anticipated that thfc hall will be packed when the men enter the ring AUSTRALIAN LIGHT-WEIGHT A contender for the light-weight boxing championship of Australia. Bert Osborne, of Melbourne, passed through Auckland by the Aorangi yesterday, en route to Honolulu. Osborne, who has defeated H. Bislion, former light-weight champion of Australia., has as manager Mr. W. Graham, of America, who predicts a great future for him. It is Mr. Graham's intention to match Osborne against the best boxers of his class in Honolulu and Vancouver and then bring him back to Australia with a view to cnjiiurinc the title.
