LODGE ACTIVITIES

FRIENDLY SOCIETIES PROGRESS OF ORDERS ELECTIONS AND VISITS A large gathering of members witnessed the installation of officers of the Friendship Rebekah Lodge, No. 42. 1.0.0. F., Henderson. The ceremony was performed by Bro. A. J. Guy, grand master of New Zealand, assisted by Sister E. Nicol, L.D.D.G.M., with her installing team of Laurel Rebekah sisters. The new officers are Sister B. Moore, noble grand; Sister F. Giltrap, vice-grand; Sister B. Dawson, financial secretary; Sister M. Carroll, recording secretary; Sister R. Hughes, treasurer. The appointed officers were Sisters L. Schramm and M. Estich, supporters to noble grand; Sisters F. Marsh and M. Dawkin, supporters to vice-grand; Sister M. Appleby, conductor; Sister G. Walker, warden; Sister J. Scanlon, guardian; Sisters B. Walker and M. Walker, right and left scene supporters; Sister D. von Schramm, chaplain. Bro. Guy, grand master, presented past noble grand collars to Sisters M. Estich, K. Walker and D. von Schramm, and P.N.G. certificates to Sisters H. A. and A. A. Corban. Among the large crowd present were members from Tutanekai, Rakoa, Wharepai, and Laurel Rebekah Lodges. The regular meeting of the Fountain of Friendship Lodge 349, was held recently, the N.G., Bro. H. W. Walker, presiding over a good attendance. Five candidates for membership were introduced by the master of ceremonies, Bro. PI. A. le Houx, P.G., and initiated The ceremony, as usual, was most carefully and impressively carried out. The honours of the lodge were then given to the new members and to the visitors present. One of th« latter spoke very highly of the way the lodge was conducted and eongratulated the members upon possessing such a beautiful lodge room and furniture. Light refreshments were then served, followed by a keen competition for the singles bowling cup, the new champion being found in Bro. Roy Smith, P.G. Epsom Lodge, No. 88, 1.0.0. F., was presided over by the noble grand, Bro. T. McKinstry, a good attendance being recorded. A large amount of business was disposed of in a most efficient manner. This being the last night of his term, the N.G. thanked his officers and the lodge members for their loyal support and wished the incoming officers a very happy and successful time. Past grand master Bro. M. J. Hooper and his team of installing officers attended to officially instal the new N.G. and his suite into their respective chairs. This ceremony was carried out in a very capable and dignified manner. Good wishes awl greetings were extended by P.G.M. Bro. J. Mclntvre, Bro. Deigan and i the D.D.G.M., Bro. G. Arnott. After business was concluded, supper was served, this being followed by some interesting games of bowls. The Epsom officers for this term are:—J.P.G., Bro. T. McKinstry; N.G., Bro. H. O. Hooper; L.S.N.G., Bro W. Mulholland; R.S.V.G., Bro. Rudkin; L.S.V.G., Bro. Young; R.S.S., Bro. Marks; L.S.S., Bro. Irwin; recording secretary, Bro. Patrick; financial secretary, Bro. W. Bond; treasurer, Bro. G. Whale; degree master, Bro. McKinstry; deputy-degree master, Bro. Mancy. Star of Newmarket Lodge, U.A.0.D., met in the council chambers lodge room, the A.D., Bro. Hill, presiding over a good attendance of members and visitors. A large amount of business was efficiently dealt with and one new candidate was proposed for initiation at next meeting. Reports were given of the visit to Roskill to compete for the Singing Shield, the home lodge, however, proving the victors, after a happy evening. The members then partook of light refreshments, after which P.D.P. Bro. Potter presided over the harmony session. A good programme of varied items was given by the members and visitors. Maungarei Rebekah Lodge, No. 66. 1.0.0. F., at its last meeting, was presided over by Sister W. Higgins, P.G., in the unavoidable absence of the N.G. There was a good attendance of members and visitors, the latter including Sister L. Boles, L.D.D.G.M., and her suite, who were present for the purpose of installing the officers for the new term. The routine business, was first disposed of, and a vote of thanks extended to Sister Irwin for her work in connection with the birthday social of the lodge. The installation ceremony, under tho capable guidance of Sister Boles, -was impressively carried out, congratulations afterwards being extended to the new officers and also the installing team. The jewels won in the recent ritual competition were then presented, Sister Boles handing one to Sister Irwin, Sister Marden presenting one to Sistei N. Ravnor, and Sister Taylor to Sister E. Westbrook. Sister Boles, L.D.D.G.M , and Sister Gear wore each given a bouquet, after which the company sat down to supper. The following now occupy the chairs of this lodge:—l.P.N.G., Sister P. Kelly; R.S.V.G., Sister W. Higgins; L.S.V.G., Sister N. Watts; 1.G., Sister M. Bice; 0.G., Sister Masterton; R.A.S., Sister Marden; L.A.S , Sister Taylor; recording secretary, Sister E. Higgins; financial secretary, Sister C. Dilgar; treasurer, Sister M. Pawley; musician. Sister Harriman;. preceptor, Bro. Sutton.

The Youthful Enterprise Juvenile Temple, 1.0. G.T., had a very successful meeting, the C.T., Sister M. Cavana, presiding over a good attendance. The children were pleased to receive a visit from a number of the Grand Lodge officers and visitors. Among these were Bro. W. lies, of Dunedin, grand chief templar; Sister lies, grand chaplain; Sister Richard (Wellington), grand treasurer; Bro. Trevithick (Wellington), grand secrtary; Sister Mrs. Watson (Nelson), D.1.C.T.; Bro. G. Price, P.G. secretary (Wellington). A past assistant superintendent, Sister Mrs. Hondricksen, now of Cambridge, was also present. Sister Cant, superintendent, welcomed the visitors, who were then warmly greeted by the children The members received with great satisfaction the news that Bro. Pace had again been re-elected grand superintendent of juvenile work. At the close of the business the visitors spoke a few words and congratulated the temple upon its work and excellent behaviour. Games and items brought a happy evening to a close.
