MELEE IN HOTEL
CHARGES OF ASSAULT LABOURER BEFORE COURT Charges of assaulting the assistantmanager of tho Hotel Auckland and two porters and refusing to leave licensed premises when requested were admitted by Clarence James Parkinson (Mr. Noble), aged 28, a labourer, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. In outlining the case Senior-Sergeant Flannagan said that at about 5.30 p.m. on Anzac Day Parkinson, together with two companions, entered the hotel and asked for drink. On being refused drink by the assistant-manager, Harry Hudson, accused caught hold of Hudson and said that he was going to have drink, and if he did not get it ho would knock Hudson's head off. Two porters were called and a general melee took place in the hotel hall. Mr. Noble said that Parkinson was married, with two children. He was in employment and was a good worker. At tho time of the offence ho was drunk and he was now quito prepared to take out a prohibition order. <'lf ho is going to take out an order that is something in his favour," said Mr. Hunt, in imposing a fine of £1 on each of tho three charges of assault. On the charge of refusing to leave licensed premises Parkinson was convicted and discharged.
