WIN FOR BLOMFIELD DEFEAT OF HARRY KENT SENSATIONAL FALL GAINED Tho return professional heavyweight wrestling contest between "Lofty" Blomfield, of Auckland, ana Harry Kent, of America, staged at the Town Hall last evening by the Auckland Wrestling Association, was won by Blomfield by one fall, which was gained in sensational circumstances less than twenty seconds after the opening of the bout. BlomfiGld attacked his opponent straight away and felled him with a series of forearm jolts to the jaw. When he had the American dazed he pounced upon him and gained a fall with a body press. This proved to be the only fall of the match, which was always interesting and at times very exciting, exchanges of forearm jolts and flying tackles having the crowd greatly worked U P on occasions. A fast pace was maintained throughout, considering that two suet heavy men were in opposition. Kent weighed 16st. 61b. and Blomfield 16st. 13ilb. Mr. C. Pollard was referee for both the professional and amateur contests. The first round ended early in the manner described and Kent was some time in regaining his feet and being helped to his corner. He revived well and opened the second round with a strong headlock. Blomfield was hooted for ear-pulling and later Kent complained about a single-finger hold. A Torrid Round There was a lot of arguing and complaining between the pair and the referee spoke to both early in the third round. Blomfield was fastened for some time in a hammerlock, and he looked to be in difficulties when he gained release witli a head scissors. Kent was again aggressive in the fourth round, in which exchanges of fore-arm jolting had the crowd j'elling almost at deafening point. It was a torrid round. Kent resumed his forearm jolt attack in the fifth round, Blomfield repelling him by means of a flying body scissors. The American hurt his opponent by butting when he had Blomfield in a sitting splits. A series of flying tackles by Kent had the crowd on its toes. Bout of Fisticuffs There was a bout of fisticuffs at the beginning of the next round and blood flowed from Kent's mouth and nose. He attacked strongly, but could not pin his man. An exchange of flying tackles took place in the seventh round, and then Kent just missed with a flying scissors off the ropes! Blomfield was roundly hooted for punching the American after rushing the latter into a corner. Kent retaliated with a series of elbow jolts which sent the New Zealander to the mat several times, without ultimate result, however. The last round provided the onlookers with plenty of thrills. Blomfield was in difficulties with a full Nelson, but he rushed to the ropes and toppled both himself and his opponent over the top on to the staging in front of the stalls. Kent landed underneath and was dazed for some seconds. However, he clambered back within the prescribed time. Blomfield rushed at his man and attempted to finish him off with more forearm jolts. To the obvious delight of his supporters, Kent sent the Aucklander sprawling several times with flying tackles, eventually hurling him through the ropes. Blomfield crawled back and weathered the remainder of the round to secure the verdict. Amateur Preliminaries Light-weight.—R. Hobbs, 9st. 61b., drew with H. Franklin, 9st. 41b., no falls being registered after a series of willing exchanges. Catch-weight.—V. Rawle, lOst. 71b., beat W. Jackson, list. 61b., on points, no falls being recorded. Light-weight.—W. Williamson, 9st. 61b., .beat F. Whitcombe, 9st. 41b. Williamson gained a fall in the second round with a combined hammerlock, hendlook and press. Feather-weight.—C. Jones. 9st., drew with E. Pinches, Bst. 71b., neither obtaining a fall. BOUT IN WELLINGTON FORSGREN BEATS MEHRINGER [BY TELEGRAPH —PRES3 ASSOCIATION*] "WELLINGTON, Monday Jn a fast, hard wrestling match at the Town Hall to-night Jack Forsgren, .16st 81b, beat Pete Mehringer, 15st 101b. Mehringer gained a fall in the fourth round with a flying mare, following three flying tackles. Forsgren gained a fall with a Boston 'crab in the seventh round, and Mehringer was unable to continue. This was Mehringer's first defeat in New Zealand.
