KINDERGARTEN AFFAIRS
WORK DURING THE YEAR REFRESHER COURSE A refresher course for teachers and students was the outstanding event of the year, states the annual report of the Auckland Kindergarten Association. There were 47 arrivals from other towns and an enthusiastic week's work Avas carried through. The report was presented at the annual meeting yesterday. Payments during the year were £573 in excess of receipts, the latter including £598 as subsidy from the Government. The subsidy for the past year was £2 8s per child, contingent on £1 being collected for every 15s to b« given as subsidy. It was found impossible to collect sufficient money to obtain the full subsidy and finally £2 Is 6d was received for each of the 376 children. The work of the principal, Miss C. Colegrove, was rewarded by the Free Kindergarten Union of New Zealand by electing her to a Carnegie Fellowship. Mr. T. U. Wells was elected a life member in recognition of his services as examiner, and as an active member of the association. The deaths of two valued members, Mrs. Brooke-Smith and Mr. J.
