ENGLISH ANGLER'S DEATH
LIEUT.-COLONEL OLDFI ELD INDIAN ARMY SERVICE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAUPO, Monday The death occurred to-day of Lieu-tenant-Colonel Allan Oldfield, who had been in the Taupo district for the past six months. He became ill at Turangi last evening and as no improvement was made this morning it was decided to rush him through to hospital in Kotorua, but he died from heart failure in the car when nearing Taupo.
Colonel Oldfield served in the Indian Army and in the Bombay political service, and had recently been living in England. He was an expert angler, and made several visits to New Zealand. He fished at Taupo in 1924, again in 1924-25, in 1934-35, and in the current season. He had taken a prominent part in pressing for steps to check the degeneration of fishing at Taupo, and only a fortnight ago he moved a remit at a meeting of the Tongariro and Upper Waikato Anglers' Club at Turangi. JEIe l» ad intended returning to England, via Australia, toward the middle of next month. Mrs. Oldfield is staying at Hotel Stonehurst.
