LAPSE OF MEMORY

MISSING MAN LOCATED PREVIOUS SEARCH RECALLED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HAWERA, Monday A well-known resident of Hawera, Mr. E. M. Fvson, who has been missing for nearly seven .months, is reported to have been located in Wellington by a Gisborne friend. It is stated that Mr. Fvson has written to his parents, indicating that he has been suffering from a lapse of memory. Mr. Fyson left Hawera on Saturday, September 28, for a tramp across the back country behind Kai-Iwi, near Wanganui. When he had not returned by the Monday fears were entertained for his safety, and his friends at Hawera organised search parties. On the Wednesday an alarming discovery was made on the bank of a stream, where Mr. Fyson's rucsack and ground sheet were found. A meal had been prepared, but the billy was missing and footprints led to the edge of the water and did not return.

The grim task of dragging the river followed, and it was almost conclusively established that there was no body in the river. Hopes were revived and the surrounding country was thoroughly searched in the belief that Mr. Fyson had lost his memory and was wandering in the scrub. On the Friday it was learned that a man corresponding to Mr. Fyson's description had boarded a train at Aramoho and the search was stopped. It was stated authoritatively at the time that Mr. Fyson had no worries and that it was likelv he was suffering from a loss of memory.
