DEFENCE OF DOMINION
NOT PACIFIST GOVERNMENT HAURAKI MEMBER'S VIEWS " The Labour Government is not a Government of pacifists; we have not yet learned to turn the other cheek," said Mr. C. It. Petrie, M.P. for Hauraki, at the Anzac Day service at Otahuhu. " We do not believe in a defenceless New Zealand; we arc concentrating on defence problems." Mr. Petrie said Labour members had their own ideas and had also the determination and the energy to carry them out. While experts differed, however, on what form New Zealand's defences should take tho Labour administration must mark time. " But you may rest assured that we shall not neglect our duty in that direction nor betray our country," concluded Mr. Petrie.
