WHANGAREI SOCIETY'S WORK SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI. Monday The balance-sheet presented at the annual meeting of the Whangarei Acclimatisation Society, over which Mr. J. W. Parkin presided, showed the society to bo in an exceptionally sound financial position. The profit on the year's working was £229. Shooting licence fees realised £454, and comprised the bulk of the receipts. "I think the past season was a good one for sportsmen," said the president's report. "Licences were well up to the average of past seasons, but I think there has been too much shooting without them." It was decided again to pay 6d for hawks' legs, with a bonus to the collector of tlio largest numbers. Reference was made by the president to the loss the society had suffered by the death of Mr. K. McLennan, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr. J. W. Parkin; vicepresident, Mr. E. W. Riek'ard; council, Messrs. E. Howe, W. J. Bell, C. Stockley, F. Buchanan, J. F. S. Briggs and F. Hawkins.
