SAVED BY PARACHUTE

AUSTRALIAN AIRMAN JUMP OF 2500 FEET AEROPLANE WRECKED (Received April 26, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, April 26

Aircraftsman Leslie Bedford Clisby, aged 21, of the Point Cook Flying Training School, parachuted safely to land from a height of 2500 ft. to-day. His machine, which was out of control, crashed three-quarters of a, mile from the spot where he landed, and was completely wrecked. Mr. Clisby was over Werribee when he found he could not bring the aeroplane out of a dive. He fought with the controls for a few seconds, but then, realising that it was hopeless, jumped over the side.
