SOCIAL EVENING
SOCIETY OF ST. GEORGE The newl.v-formed branch of the Royal Society of St. George held a very successful function to commemorate the day of the patron saint of England. A large gathering of members and intending members was present. lhe speaker, Mr. F. H. Gifford, made all present conversant with the aims and objects of the society, and gave a brief outline of the life of St. George and his work. Owing to the death of His Majesty King George, the council decided to hold a social function in place of the customary annual dinner. The evening was confined to English music contributed as follows:—"Land of Hope and Glory," by Mr. G. Mason; songs by Mrs. G. Stormont, Mrs. E. Asher, Miss J. GifTord, Miss J. Heath-Preest and Madame Dunn. Mrs. It. N. W. Reed and Mr. C. Asher acted as accompanists. Mr. Graham Reid's, orchestra played appropriate music during the intervals. Members of the council present were Messrs. F. H. Gifford, W. Alexander, P. Heath-Preest, 0. Stormont, H. Pickering, G. Reid, C. A. Hankins and Captain Hugh Kasper, who looked after the comfort of the guests. Others present were Mesdames. P. Heath-Preest, F. H. Gifford, W. Alexander, H. Pickering, C. Hankins, C. Stormont, G.
