VOYAGE INTERRUPTED

STEAMER GOLDEN BEAR CHIEF STEWARD'S ILLNESS An emergency call at Pago Pago, American Samoa, to land the chief steward, Mr. G. M. Jeffery, who re* quired urgent medical attention, was made by the American steamer Golden Bear, which arrived from Los Angeles on Saturday night. Three days after the steamer left Los Angeles for Auckland Mr. Jeffery became ill from acute appendicitis. A description of his illness was wirelessed to Honolulu, and Captain E. M. Oisen was then advised what treatment to give the patient.
