Ferrier went into an immediate lead with a birdie three. McLean was bunkered at the fourth and fifth, but, with great recoveries, he halved both holes. Following a tremendous, drive to the sixth, the longest hole, of 521 yards, Ferrier won in a birdie four to become 2 Up. y It was now bitterly cold with rain handicapping Ferrier, whose long drive to the seventh went out of bounds and he lost the hole, to turn 1 up. McLean squared the match at the eleventh and led for the first time at the fourteenth. He clinched victory by 2 and 1 at the long and difficult seventeenth, -where Ferrier was first in a bunker and then in the river. Ferrier in the foursomes partnered J. R. Brodlie, the ex-Scottish University champion, against the Glasgow pair, McCallum and Peters. A bitter gale was blowing. Ferrier was more impressive than in the singles, hitting many fine shots, while Brodlie sank long putts. They were finally victorious by 5 and 4. Ferrier says ho is quit© pleased with his form and he hopes to do creditably in the championship.
