FISHING AT ROTORUA

FAIR SPORT GENERALLY SEVERAL GOOD CATCHES MADE [|BY TELECRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Sunday In spite of improved weather fishing in the Rotorua lakes has continued to bo somewhat difficult and anglers have enjoyed only fair sport, states the conservator of fish and game, Mr. A. Kean, in his fortnightly report. Exceptionally good results were obtained, however, from Lake Tarawera. Many of the fish taken from this lake were up to Sib. in weight. Good fish were also obtained from the Ohau Channel and several good bags were secured from the mouth of the Ngongotaha Stream. Spoon fishing was good in Lakes Rotorua, Rotoiti, Tarawera and Rotoehu, the fish from the latter lake being of much improved condition. The fly pool below the Aratiatia Rapids on tho Waikato River fished very well, several good bags boing taken, but between the rapids and the Huka Falls the conditions were difficult. Discolouration of the waters of Lake Taupo had the effect of moving the fish from tho shallow areas to deepen water. Conditions were similar at Tokaanu. Dry fly fishermen consequently experienced rather disappointing conditions, but the fish taken were in excellent condition and generally tho average weight of the best bags was slightly better than 51b.
