SCHOOLBOY FOUND
SIX-YEAR-OLD ABROAD "STOWED AWAY" ON TRAINS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Thursday The six-year-old schoolboy, Colin Maxwell, of Te Awamutu, who had been missing for some 38 hours, was found in Paeroa late last night. The lad left homo to go to school on Tuesday morning, and when he did not return early that evening, diligent inquiries were made, but without result. The search was continued all day yesterday, and last evening a description of the missing boy. was broadcast and all police stations were notified. At about 11 o'clock last night Constable Maiden, of Paeroa, found the boy wandering about the main street of Paeroa. He took him home, washed him and put him to bed, and the lad was returned to his parents to-day. It is understood that the boy concealed himself in a railway carriage at the Te Awamutu railway station and was conveyed to Frankton Junction. He slept in the carriage that night and tho next day ho changed to another train, which took him to Paeroa. Tho lad did not appear at all concerned at this adventure, and when asked how ho managed for food, naively replied that one man had given him twopence and another threepence, and ho had bought himself somo fish and chips.
