GRAFTON BRIDGE TRAFFIC

NIGHT DRIVING DIFFICULTY OFFICER HARD TO SEE Considerable difficulty is experienced by motorists using Grafton Bridge at night owing to tho difficulty of seeing the traffic officer on points duty at the Symonds Street intersection. Tho driver coining across the bridge in the direction of the City is confronted with a glaro of traffic lights from oncoming vehicles in Karangahape Boad, and it is very difficult to i«e whether the officer is signalling bridge traffic on or not. Difficulties aro increased ten-fold on wet nights when there is a lot of glare

from the shining street surface and visibility is generally reduced, causing drivers to proceed against the signal by mistake. Tho position at the bridge intersection could probably be improved a groat deal by tho provision of a powerful spotlight over the head of the traffic officer. A small floodlight is in uso at present, but it is not very strong.
