WEALTH OF TALENT
Tho Australian Writers' Annual (1936) published by Will Lawson for the Fellowship of Australian Writers, deserves the serious perusal of fellow tradesmen in New Zealand with a frank view to emulation if not imitation. Flora Eldershaw, as editor, has provided an excellent opportunity for Australian writers to gambol. There is not a dull page. Seldom has thoro been a richer period in cartoon or a better crop of writers. New Zealanders who study this interesting shop-window should not miss the article by Vance Palmer—a plea for fair play for fine words. A. G. Stephens he says: ".One cannot communicate any clear vision of a scene by fuzzy words. All good description is precise. When Walt Whitman wanted to picture a waterfall he said it dropped thirty feet over a rock. Aim at the correct phrase."
