THE ALSATIAN DOG
Sir, —"Pom" wishes to know from an Alsatian owner why he prefers an uncivilised Alsatian to a civilised collie. Well, firstly, because the collie has been so civilised by being bred to show type that he has become a long-haired narrow-headed nincompoop. And secondly, because my Alsatian does not suffer fools gladly, and neither do I. \ Huapai. G. E. Nai.der. Sir, —Many will disagree with your correspondent "Pontv" when he insists that the Alsatian is indispensible as a watch dog. Jf, however, in rare cases, such vicious guardians be deemed necessary, then let owners establish their bona fides by paying substantial licence fees and by keeping their brutes off the streets. "Pontv" says that "outside interference" has a baneful effect on the animals, so that there is no excuse whatever for- their being allowed to desert their "watches" and molesting peaceful citizens. Pom.
