TRADE AGREEMENTS
INFORMATION SOUGHT GOVERNMENT'S INTENTIONS [by telegraph—special reporter] WELLINGTON. Thursday An inquiry as to the manner in which the Government proposed to set about making overseas trade agreements was made in the House of Representatives to-day by Mr. W. J. Poison (Opposition—Stratford). After referring to the action taken by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in regard to the wheat, Hour and bread industries Mr. Poison, in a question addressed to the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, asked whether that principle of embargoes on imported goods was a part of the plan for making overseas trade agreements. If so, how did he propose to square it with the spirit and intention of the Ottawa Agreement. In a further question Mr. Poison referred to the fact that the Ottawa Agreement was to terminate this year and asked what was the policy of the Government in connection with'that important question, lri view of the Government's avowed intention to seek trade agreements with other countries what steps wcrre being taken in that direction.
