DECAYED ELM LEAVES

NEW USE DISCOVERED EXPLOSIVE QUALITIES • Received Aprjl 22, 9.35 p.m.) SYDNEY. April 22 A new use for decaying elm leaves which litter the streets of Bacchus Marsh, near Ballarat, Victoria, has been found. An element of secrecy surrounds the method of treatment, but it is understood that the dead leaves are consigned to a factory at Richmond where the essence is extracted, ostensibly for lung complaints. The extract may also be used in a deadly high explosive, which the factory is reported to be exporting to Germany.
