NEW ROAD OPENED
ACCESS FOR OMAPERE SCENIC ROUTE AT HOKIANGA [bv telegraph—own correspondent! RAWENE, Wednesday At Omapere, a picturesque spot near the Hokianga Heads, the settlers turned out in large numbers to-day for the official opening of a new road from Omapere to Opononi. The residents have for years been agitating for the completion of this road, as it not only gives them more direct access to their dairy factory and trading centre, but forms the final link in an admirable round trip of scenic beauties. Until the formation of this route goods and cream had to bo packed along the beach. Congratulatory speeches were made by the chairman of the committee, Mr. F. E. Bridge, Mr. Jenkins, of the lie Works Department, Mr. Freese and Sir. Mulcahy, members of the Hokianga County Council, and Messrs. F. Andre wes, G. Martin, C. Lane and C. Newton, old inhabitants of the district. The opening ceremony was performed by a very old resident of Omapere, Mis ß Mary Rowe, who snipped the spanning ribbon. From a tourist's point of view. th« road will be very popular, joining as it does the Waipoua Forest Road and running along the waterfront vide some really superb views of to. Hokianga Heads, and the Tasman Sea.
