GROCERIES DAMAGED
ROTORUA SHOP FLOODED PROPRIETOR'S HEAVY LOSS [from <)ur own correspondent] ROTORUA. Wednesday A considerable quantity of groceries was damaged by water in the premises of the Arawa Stores, in Arawa Street, as a result of the storm experienced in Rotorua on Monday evening. The proprietor, Mr. G. Johnstone, estimates that his loss will amount to several hundred pounds. Apparently a defect in the roof of the building, and the inability of the guttering to carry away the unusually heavy fall of rain, resulted in the water seeping through to the shop. Running down the walls, the water seriously damaged tho goods on the shelves. When Mr. Johnstone arrived at the premises the following morning water was still flowing out the doorway, and it was discovered that a large quantity of the stock had been considerably damaged, while boxes of goods standing on the floor were waterlogged. The heavy rain also caused some damage to the stocks of Mr. A. V. Mcrriman, jeweller, of Arawa Street.
