FALSE PRETENCES
SIX CHARGES ADMITTED Six charges of obtaining goods by false pretences were admitted in the Police Court yesterday by John Thomas Brown (Mr. Sullivan). Senior-Detective Hall said accused had been obtaining contracts for tarring, sanding, painting and similar work. The contracts allowed him a good margin of profit, and included labour and materials. However, he obtained materials from various city firms and charged them to the householders who had given him the contracts. A sum of £l6 was involved, but goodß valued at £2 12s 5d had been recovered. Mr. Sullivan made a plea for leni ency and accused was' remanded for a week for sentence.
