COMPENSATORY PAYMENT UNANIMOUS DECISION [from OCR own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday Forty dairy factory directors, representing; nearly all the butter and cheese manufacturers in South Auckland, met in Hamilton to-day under the auspices of the South Auckland Dairy Association to discuss the Government's guaranteed price scheme. Tho chairman, Mr. S. A. Ferguson, ruled that tho meeting should be held in committee. The meeting was addressed by Mr. S. J. E. Closey, representing the Douglas Credit Movement,* and by Mr. J. H. Furniss, representing the Farmers' Union. Mr. Furniss was one of the representatives of the Farmers' Union who attended two conferences in "Wellington with the Minister of F.mployment, the Hon. 11. T. Armstrong. The discussion at to-day's meeting revolved round the point of guaranteed prices as against compensatory prices. At tho close of the meeting the following resolution, proposed by Mr. 1?. H. McKenzie, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. Limited, and seconded by .Mr. W. Darrall, chairman of directors of the Tatua Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, was carried unanimously:—"That the only equitable basis of payment for primary produce is to pay to the producer a compensating price to cover the difference between the price level in the country in which his goods are marketed as compared with the price level in the country in which his goods are produced." A delegate who was asked to give an explanation of the resolution said that in view of the chairman's ruling he could not add anything to what had been supplied by tho secretary.
