FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA
PROGRESS OF MELROSE (Received April 21. 6.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY. April 20 Mr. C. J Melrose, the South Australian airman, left Singapore for Lombok this afternoon on a further stago of his flight from England to Australia. Lombok is an island of the Malay Archipelago. The chief town is Mataram and the main port is Ampanam, situated on the west coast. Mountain chains extend along the north and south coasts, and between them is a plain wholly used for the cultivation of rice. Coffee and maize are produced on the slopes of the hills. The island should properly be called Selaparan, as Lombok refers only to the southern district.
