ELECTRICAL STORM
EAST COAST DISTURBANCE WIND AND HEAVY RAIN [BT TELEGBAPH —03VX COBBESPOSDEST] GISBORNE. Tuesday A vivid electrical storm last evening broke over the Motu district, an exceptionally brilliaut display of ligMj' f ning continuing for several hours wit hardly a break. ■ „ _ Throughout yesterday there was thunder and lightning at intervals, accompanied by torrential rain. For t © 24 hours to 9 a®, to-day the ramfa amounted to 3.24 in., most of which re yesterday afternoon. The Motu Birer and creeks rose rapidly, but althoug the river this morning had reached, bank-level, no report of its having overflowed has been received. Motu residents said the of lightning was one of the most vivi they had seen. Between seven and ten o'clock last night the whole stv was continuously lit up, illuminating t © surrounding hills. Ihis morning showers of rain were still falling, and a hig wind was raging Gisborne residents were also treate to a brilliant display of lightning- A feature of the electrical storm was the rapidity with which one flash followed another.
