LAWN TENNIS
PROFITS FROM EXHIBITIONS GROWTH OF EASTER TOURNEY Profits from the exhibition matches played by members of tho Au9tralinn Davis Cup team at Stanley Street on March 30 amounted to over £22, reported Mr. P. Harrison, president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, at a meeting of delegates last evening. The report on tho hard court tournament, held at Windmill l?oad over the Easter holidays, referred to the improvement in the standard of play, especially in the lower flections and to tho increased participation of the better players. Tho difficulty of completing the tournament in reasonable time, owing to players having entered in more than one section, resulted in tho recommen dation that in future players be restricted to entries in one section only, except that lower grade players should also be allowed to enter in one higher grade singles event. Outstanding performances in Bome of the lower section events were responsible for recommendations that several players be graded in higher sections next year. In commenting upon tho report the president pointed out that this tournament was now the largest conducted by the association and appeared to cater most successfully for the general body of players.
