THE LEAGUE CODE
NEW PLAYERS APPEAR The appearance' of many new players at Carlaw Park on Saturday was a feature of the opening of the season by the Auckland Rugoy League. Although the clubs were given an opportunity of trying out new members, a good standard was maintained and the season promises to be very successful. The fact that the senior teams will include many young players as well as prominent converts from Rugby Union is a matter of interest to enthusiasts. It is apparent that both Mount Albert and Richmond are far ahead of the other teams in fitness, and this will play nn important part when the competition opens next Saturday week. Players in the_ principal match must have remembered the type of football adopted by the Australians last season. The forwards of both Mount Albert and Richmond indulged in nice passing rushes. There was an entire absence of ruck play in which forwards often indulge. The appearance of Haslam, Aro and Breed, former senior Rugby players now with Marist, created much interest. The two first-named played good football early in the game, especially Aro, who was suffering from a severe cold. With a better knowledge of the finer points of the game the pair should be an acquisition to the code. Another player to impress was Peterson, a former Marist Club (Hawke's Bay) forward. Peterson played a dashing game in the forwards for Mount Albert.
