AN INJURED HAND
WORKER'S COMPENSATION SETTLEMENT ANNOUNCED The settlement by agreement of a worker's claim for compensation was announced to the Arbitration Court yesterday. The claimant was James Roy Wallis (Mr. Foy), of Parnell, biscuit maker, and the defendant J. M. Mennie, Limited (Mr. Hore). Wallis suffered an accident in the course of his employment on July 5, 1935, while he was extracting dough from a mixer. His right hand was caught and extensively lacerated, and the index finger had to be amputated. Wallis had already been allowed £27, and he was granted a further £240 8s 2d made up of the balance of weekly payments of £3 10s during total incapacity and a lump sum in compensation for the permanent disability. He was also allowed £7 7s cbunsel's fee and £4 4s for medical witnesses.
