LENDING OF RADIUM
A REQUEST DECLINED HOSPITAL BOARD'S VIEW A request from the committee of the honorary medical staff of the Auckland Hospital that certain proposed regulations governing the loan of radium from the hospital should be adopted did not find favour with the Hospital Board at its meeting yesterday. The board decided not to authorise the loan of radium from the hospital. The chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, pointed out that the board had a resolution prohibiting the lending of radium. The medical superintendent, Dr. J. W. Craven, said he had changed his opinion on this subject in view of altered conditions. The hospital had an adequate supply now, and there were not so many people applying for its use. There were some who were expert in its use. Dr. E. B. Gunson said they would\be putting on Dr. Craven the onus of saying whether the radium would be safe in the hands of the man to whom it was lent. It was decided not to accede to the request to permit the loan of radium.
