LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
Newton East. —The Newton East branch held its monthly meeting last week. Mrs Ohms presided, and welcomed Mrs. F. W. Whyte, provincial secretary, who was tho speaker for the afternoon. Mrs. Whyte took for her subject "Some Women of the Old Testament," and invested her subject with a great deal of originality. Songs were rendered by Mesdames Owen, and Silby, and recitations by Mrs. Shaw. The thought for tho month was given by Mrs. Arnett. Afternoon tea brought the gathering to a close'. City Branch. —The monthly meeting of the branch was held in the Airedale Street Mission Hall Mrs. Cyril Towsley, president, occupied the chair. Mrs. McDowell gave a helpful address, also a demonstration on first aid in the home. Miss Nancy Gilmore sang, and accompanied on the piano. Dorothy and Patricia Usher gave a delightful little sketch, "Grandmother's Picture." Mrs. Nudds recited. Afternoon tea was served by members of the committee. Arapuni.—There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting held this week. Competitions were won by Mrs. McCowan and Mrs. Hesketh. Mrs. Ackman gave an address and Mrs. McDonald recited. Tho roll call was "Suggestions." Hostesses for tea wore Mesdames Ackland and Ackman. Mrs. Griffin presided.
