NEW LINER'S TRIALS
SPEED OF NEARLY 35 KNOTS NO OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION (Received April 20, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 19 Tho Ncws-Chroniclo says that although experts estimated the Queen Mary's speed at 32.84 knots on her trials, it is understood that she reached nearer 35 knots on one run over the measured mile. If it is officially confirmed, this speed, nearly 41 miles an hour, will give the Queen Mary a big advantage over the French liner Normandie, whose highest speed, 32 knots, is the present Mercantile Marine record.
